Fuck you, George...
Perhaps because of my enormous ego, I rarely find people that I truly admire and look up to. One of those people was the American comedian, George Carlin, who passed away today. I only ever really saw one Carlin show, the one where he comes out on stage and without the usual introductions ("Hey, New York - how you feelin' tonight" et cetera) just screams "Why is it that the people who are against abortions are those who are too ugly to fuck in the first place?"
On the other hand, I read up a lot on Carlin and read a lot of his comedy transcripts online. Carlin was an icon, and a pioneer not only of comedy but of freedom of speech. Indeed, his campaigning for the freedom to curse in public - along with other pioneers like Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce - paved the way for freedoms enjoyed by not only American comedians like Chris Rock and Dennis Miller but, when one factors in the influence of American media the world over, artists and writers all over the world.
I would go so far as to say that if Carlin did not deliver and fight for the right to deliver his Seven Dirty Words routine, I probably would not be able to use the amount of motherfucking profanity I use on this skunthole of a fucking blog.
I would like to use this opportunity to see farewell to Mr. Carlin and wish him the best wherever he is. Just one more time, a final seven word salute:
"shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker, and tits"
