By the way, let me register that I am not a fan of House because I in any way personally identify with a cranky, mean, self-centred, sarcastic, narcissistic, foul-mouthed perverted genius who hates mediocrity and has a thing for hot, intelligent women. Really. I just like the show.

You forgot to add that House is a walking sartorial conundrum, is never well groomed and often unkempt, and seems to have contentious relationship with hygiene. You are quite correct to not personally identify with such a character.

we all profess to not identify with him but secretly wish to be him - this misanthropic genius, who saves lives while wrecking those of lesser mortals.
