You can't judge a book et cetera

Sitting here in Oasis Cafe, having had a particularly exhilarating online reminiscence about a particularly fine bottle of Moet & Chandon (1980 vintage) I enjoyed about a month and a half ago, with the promise of more to come, I am preparing to head home to really start working.

The reminiscence and the promise was good because, another particularly fine bottle (also 1980 vintage) keeps presenting itself and disappearing, to the point that I am seriously considering going completely back to teetotalling.

Tonight I will go and undertake some laying out of my completed stories. I am a one-man production outfit when it comes to the writing, layout and graphic design of Fictions and I can tell you it's hard work. This afternoon it is hard work I can go home to with a damn smile on my face.

You've gotten snippets of the content of Fictions, some more of which I will be posting closer to the launch dates, and a mockup of the cover. I enhanced the cover design a bit and would like your opinion on it. Bitchy opinions are welcome, just as long as they are informed bitchy opinions.

Nice simple cover. Its good. I know something about graphic design and 'Fictions' should be bigger. Your eyes are focusing in on the picture rather than the title. A change of font can be done also. Check http://www.dafont.com/ and find a font you like, but keep it simple.

If you're doing any colour adjustments make sure they are in harmony and stuff.. http://www.pagethinker.com/how-to-find-the-perfect-colors-for-your-design-to-communicate-effectively.html

Otherwise.. good cover. (do you have to get any legal stuff worked out with the use of that picture? Most likely not. And I'm sure you've got plans in place to let a critic read your stuff where you can sample a compliment on the cover.)

I hate the picture..what is it and what does it mean to you?

do you have permission to use that picture on your cover? It must be copyrighted.

You won't get bitchy from me.

The painting...does anyone 'own' the rights to it, never mind it's 'old'...? Or you can get into trouble for using it.

Other than that, good layout, nice, clean, uncluttered look. Red and black - strong.

Just curious...you found someone to publish you?

Okay, I know you don't talk to li'l folks like me...but answer me nah, ow.
